About the Readiatrician
I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage
Roald Dahl
The abridged version…
I’m Jaclyn. I am a pediatrician living in Upstate New York with my husband and three sons. This is a place to celebrate and explore the best children’s literature- from board books to YA. Reading is my passion, and I hope you find something here that inspires you to make it yours, too.
No, please, do go on. . .
I love talking about reading and I want to talk about it all the time. This includes:
- what you are reading
- what I am reading
- what my kids are reading
- what my patients are reading
- what books you like
- what books the kids in your life like (and why they like them!)
After all this, I want to recommend more books to you that I think the kids in your life will enjoy because of the books you (and those kids!) have already read.
I want to help you make the most of sharing books with children. I encourage you to find a few minutes of unhurried time to experience a book with a young reader. Check out the “Rx for Reading” heading on the main menu for ideas on how to share a book with a baby or toddler, how to foster reading development, and how to read with your older child when they are too old to be read to. My hope is that this is a website you return to, again and again, to find books to share with all the young readers in your life.
A children’s story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story in the slightest
